What This Means for Your Business

  • Compare yourself with other restaurants, not with 5.0. If you are below 4.5, you are in the lower half of restaurants in our sample; below 4.4, the bottom quarter.
  • Aim for at least 848 reviews. That is the median for restaurants. Customers compare you with nearby competitors, so a review count well below the norm is a visible gap.
  • Ask every customer, every time. A steady flow of reviews from all your customers keeps your rating representative of the service you actually give.

Where does this data come from?

These are aggregates from a sample of 2,106 restaurants with at least one review that Feedback Guru looked up through the Google Places API between December 2024 and January 2025. It is not a random sample of all US restaurants, and no individual business is shown.

Methodology

This page uses a sample of businesses that Feedback Guru looked up through the Google Places API, mostly between December 2024 and January 2025. For each business we recorded its public star rating, review count, primary business type and city. Each business is counted once, using its most recent snapshot, and businesses marked as closed are excluded.

"Restaurants" means businesses whose primary Google business type was restaurant. Rating figures cover the 2,106 restaurants with at least one review; the share with no reviews is based on all 2,109 operating restaurants found. We only publish industries with at least 200 reviewed businesses, and we show aggregates only, never individual businesses.

The sample is not a random sample of all US restaurants. It covers the cities Feedback Guru has analyzed, with a larger share from Florida, so treat the numbers as indicative. Ratings and review counts have changed since collection. The method matches our Google review statistics study.
